During this time, access to clean clothing, diapers, hygiene products, safe baby equipment, and proper nutrition lays the foundation for lifelong health and well-being.
But for thousands of families in Hamilton and Halton, affording these basic essentials is simply unattainable.
Today, 1 in 5 children in Hamilton live in poverty, that is more than 24,000 children. In Halton, approximately 17,000 children are growing up without the essentials they need for a healthy start in life. Across Canada, 1 in 5 mothers struggle to afford diapers, leaving parents to make impossible choices between diapers, food, rent, and other basic necessities.
When families cannot afford the basics, babies are the ones who pay the price.
